Essential Career Questions (ECQs)

By:  Telaireus K.  Herrin

I just returned from vacation – my reason for the hiatus. Each year, we try to return to Park Rapids, Minnesota “to the lake” (as we like to call it) to visit family and relax. There is something about Minnesota in the summer, especially Northwest Minnesota where the people are nice, the air is clean, the lake is inviting and the German/Norwegian food is a great indulgence. This vacation time “to the lake” is also one of the few times in the year when I have dedicated time to think and reflect. During this recent vacation, I was able to flesh out some ideas and concepts regarding EntryHR.com, career development and this blog. One of those concepts is ECQs – Essential Career Questions.

What are ECQs? ECQs are questions to help you dig deep and understand what you want, what is important, what is rewarding and what you offer relative to your chosen career. They are questions that probe, explore, guide and clarify. The beauty of these ECQs is that there are no wrong answers as long as answers are true to the person responding. Starting today on EntryHR.com’s blog, I am introducing this concept formally. You will start to see various ECQs periodically as the EntryHR.com blog grows. We also welcome and invite contributions to our list of ECQs.

First ECQ:  What are you passionate about? Passion drives focus, quality and action. Are you passionate about your job/career or elements of it?   Pursue your passion!
